Jeremy Courtney

Through deaths, bombings, imprisonments and intense living conditions in Iraq, Jeremy Courtney has led the Preemptive Love Coalition  in an effort to eradicate the backlog of 30,000+ Iraqi children waiting in line for lifesaving heart surgery. In times of Iraqi support and subterfuge, the “preemptive love” creed has allowed countless stories of reconciliation to be written among Iraqis and Americans, Muslims and Christians, Kurds and Arabs, Sunnis and Shias. Known across Iraq as a devout follower of Jesus, Jeremy is passionate about the Church’s adoption of new postures in which acts of preemptive love factor more purposefully into our worship as witness.

Remaking the World through Heart Surgery

What does it take to save the lives of 30,000 children waiting in line for lifesaving heart surgery? Or to pursue peace between at-odds groups in a country at war? Jeremy Courtney draws from his last five years as a Christ-follower in Iraq’s most dangerous cities to establish “preemptive love” as the way to unmake violence, establish an enduring peace, and remake the world around us to the good of humanity and the glory of God.
