Tom Krattenmaker

Tom Krattenmaker is a Portland-based writer specializing in religion in public life and author of “Onward Christian Athletes." Krattenmaker writes regularly for USA Today’s “On Religion” commentary page as a member of the newspaper’s editorial Board of Contributors. The American Academy of Religion honored his article “The Evangelicals You Don’t Know” as one of the top three pieces of religion commentary in its 2009 Journalism Awards program, praising Krattenmaker’s work for challenging popular misconceptions about evangelicals “and showing that something new, something more complex and subtle is going on — a great goal for religion commentary.”

Getting the Portland Vibe

If you want to see what the future of American social culture might look like, head west. This presentation brings to you ground zero of our post-Christian culture in the form of Portland, Oregon. Local Portlanders and good friends, Tom Krattenmaker and Kevin Palau, let you in on their private coffee conversations. How is God moving in Portland? What are the dynamics at play that movements in other cities might resemble? Most important, why must we all experience Portland to prepare for future cultural shifts?
