The Story of Justice
by
Gregg Helvey
Gregg recently graduated from film school at the University of Southern California, the place where George Lucas dreamed up Star Wars and Robert Zemeckis developed the chops that led to Back to the Future and Forrest Gump. If you want to make films in Hollywood (and your parents aren’t already famous actors), then this is the place to start. But Gregg didn’t just want to make Hollywood fare; he wanted to make important films.
In 2009, Kavi won the Oscar in the student film category and in 2010 was nominated for an Academy Award for the Best Short Film. Gregg has worked with several anti-trafficking organizations to leverage the film to elevate awareness and raise funds to combat this tragic reality. No question this film is about an important topic in an important time. Coming on the heels of Slumdog Millionaire’s success, Kavi has ensured the injustice of Indian culture remains in the fore for those concerned with human rights.
